Global Wind Day 2024 – June 15

Global Wind Day

Global Wind Day, observed annually on June 15th, promotes wind energy as a renewable source with the potential to reshape energy systems, decarbonize economies, and boost jobs and growth.

Additionally, the day promotes clean air and encourages people to strive for a greener planet. WindEurope (European Wind Energy Association- EWEA) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) organize the annual Global Wind Day, also known as World Wind Day.

Theme

  • Global Wind Day 2024 is based on the theme of celebrating the benefits of wind energy and educating individuals about the power and potential of wind energy to change the world.
  • On this day, wind energy companies and organizations around the world host a variety of events. Educational seminars, wind farm tours, wind turbine demonstrations, and parades are among the attractions.
  • National wind energy organizations and companies interested in wind energy generation collaborate with EWEA and GWEC to conduct events in various locations across the world.
  • Visits to onshore and offshore wind farms, information campaigns, demonstration turbines in cities, wind seminars, and a wind parade are among the events scheduled.
  • Many events occur on Global Wind Day itself, as well as in the days and weeks preceding and following it.

History

  • Global Wind Day began in Europe in 2007 as “Wind Day,” a pan-European campaign organized by the EWEA to raise awareness of the importance of clean wind energy.
  • In 2009, EWEA collaborated with GWEC to create a global event with the goal of encouraging people all around the world to make the most of wind energy.

Significance

  • The campaign promotes wind energy, supports support for wind farms, and highlights advancements in wind energy development, such as larger and more efficient turbines.
  • It also urges action on climate change by emphasizing wind energy’s ability to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
